Making Zero Clearance Inserts for SawStop

It's easier and more accurate to make your own template for SawStop ZCI's, than to use the supplied throat plate, with it's hinged locking mechanism.

  1. Are these made out of standard 1/2" ply? Did you find a need to route any relief areas in the bottom like the stock plates?

    Thanks,

  2. It's probably best to use Baltic Birch 1/2" ply, but other high-quality plywood could also work just fine. You only need to hollow out the areas near the blade if you want to raise the blade all the way up, which I rarely do. That said, you do need to hollow out for the part that attaches to the dust port, and that cut-out needs to be elongated in the ZCI's that are cut at angles, for miters.
